It started with fall leaves and a special diet. In 2008, I was on a gluten free diet, prescribed to help heal my body of Celiac Disease. After about six years of NOT being able to have the yummy treats that everyone else was enjoying, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Searching the internet, I was able to locate a pretty good recipe for GF (gluten free) sugar cookies. I got myself some huge cookie cutters shaped like an oak leaf and a pumpkin, and soon there were cookies, yummy cookies, that I could enjoy! (If you are on a gluten free diet or know anyone that is, you probably know how hard it is to come by baked goods that aren't baked bads!) After they were all baked, of course I had to decorate them, and soon I had a kitchen full of gorgeous, delicious, brightly colored fall leaves. After the fall leaves, I started baking cookies pretty often.
At the end of 2008, I found my diagnosis was wrong - after six and half years on a GF diet, I do not have celiac disease!! Yay!!! Now, I can eat whatever I want, and trust me, I do! So now my cookies are not gluten free (though I can still do them) and I have perfected my own sugar cookie recipe that I use for all my Very Vanilla Sugar Cookies. With that, I have changed my profession and changed my life.
I am a former high school science teacher, turned full time baker, wife and mom. I love this life and I hope you stop in often because I'd love to share it with you.

The first cookies made by The Sweetest Thing that weren't eaten by my husband and son!
There were several different designs, but all were pink and white hearts for Mothers' Day.
They were a huge hit! |
